Orange County Sports Club Members, Participants, Friends and Families,

What a whirlwind of a month to start my tenure at OCSC! With that being said, I hope that this note finds you all safe and healthy. Being that many of our introductions and pleasantries were rudely interrupted by COVID-19, I wanted to take this opportunity to introduce myself and highlight my outlook and perspective on the future.

First, a little bit about me
I was born, raised and graduated high school in Warwick, NY. Upon graduating from SUNY Cortland with a Bachelor’s Degree in Sport Management and Canisius College with a Master’s Degree in Education, I jumped into the first tenure of my career at Chelsea Piers in New York City. At Chelsea Piers, I served as the Assistant Director of Soccer and Golf Academy Manager. From there I transitioned to NYC Parks where I managed Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex for four years before spending the past year and a half as a Community Relations Specialist within the Office of Programming and Strategic Management with an emphasis in citywide sports and initiatives. After spending a couple years living within the confines of NYC and Rockland County, my wife and I were drawn back to this wonderful community of Orange County. We currently reside in Warwick, NY as proud parents of an 18-month-old baby girl and dog named Sage.

What is my outlook for the future?
OCSC has always been a staple within the community. Regardless of whether you think of the facility as Sports, Fitness and Fun or Orange County Sports Club, one thing is evident; the local community has always had a major influence on our operation. I think we’ve all had experiences at OCSC that have stayed with us to this day. OCSC has unlimited opportunity for growth and development as well as limitless ways to impact those that we serve. I intend to shift the focus of our operation back to the community which we inhabit and the constituents who hold us near and dear to their heart. My hope is to work alongside you and our staff to ensure we reach our potential for all of Orange County.

What have we done at OCSC during this period of lockdown?
During the time we have been mandated to close, OCSC has focused its efforts on cleaning and disinfecting the facility as well as providing improvements in various areas that will directly impact your experience. This includes a deep dive into our gymnastics and warrior zone area. No mat, piece of equipment or apparatus was left unturned. We’ve also made some improvements to our fitness center by addressing some lingering equipment issues. We still have some work to do on this front but remain committed to keeping this a priority. Lastly, we are working on ways to address our organizational skills. By maximizing our spaces to the best of our abilities, we can provide a safer, more orderly environment. Let’s also not forget to mention the upgrade of our water fountains!  The days of rugged, dated fountains have been replaced with updated, water bottle friendly units.

What do I most want you to know about me?
I think most of all, I want you to know that I am fully committed to this facility, the local community and the programs that we offer. We have a tremendous staff in place that are capable of so much! I am fully invested and want OCSC to succeed beyond our wildest dreams. Will this be an easy task? Absolutely not. However, I do believe in what we have in place and feel that by focusing our collaborative efforts to do right by our community that we can continue to new heights. This facility and operation is one that is dependent upon the heartbeat of the community. Unlike other corporate health clubs and facilities, we depend solely on our committed member and participant base. That is why I pride myself on building lasting, meaningful relationships with our dedicated participants and members all while creating and maintaining connections with other local businesses throughout Orange County. That is why I know that we will get through these trying times! This challenge that has been set before us is temporary, OCSC is forever!

If you have any questions you would like answered or any concerns you would like to address, I would love to hear from you.  Please send me an email at DDunn@orangecountysportsclub.com and I’ll do my best to answer you.  If you have something positive about OCSC you’d like to share, leave a comment below.
